Queen Elizabeth Pod Launch - July 26th

Vancouver’s First Food Truck Pod Opens on July 26th

Vancouver, BC – July 21, 2013 – Vancouver’s first and only food truck pod will be hosting its grand opening on Friday, July 26th from 11AM – 3PM at Hamilton and W. Georgia Street.

The ‘Q.E Pod’ – named appropriately due to its location directly beside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the pod features 6 of Vancouver’s newest food trucks and carts including:

Aussie Pie Guy – Australian savory and sweet pies.

ChouChou Crepes – authentic French crepes.

Culver City Salads – fresh, vegan salads.

DougieDog Diner – gourmet hot dogs and burgers.

Fat Duck Mobile Eatery – urban country cooking.

Reel Mac And Cheese – gourmet macaroni and cheese.

Although a few of the trucks that call the Q.E Pod home have been up and running since the start of summer -  July 26th marks the first date that the pod will be complete with all 6 vendors serving up delicious and diverse items fresh from their trucks and carts.

“The pod will please a diverse audience - great for Vancouver - there is something for everyone.” Said Tavis Olsen, owner of Fat Duck Mobile Eatery.

The Q.E Pod grand opening celebrations will feature contests, giveaways and unique offerings from each truck. Customers also have the chance to try out every truck for free by entering to win a meal from each Q.E Pod vendor!

The idea of a food truck pod was inspired by Portland, the city that is credited by many as the forefront for food truck culture. The Q.E Pod has been dubbed as a daily, mini food cart festival and Vancouver’s outdoor food court.

Local, Sustainable and Ethical

At Aussie Pie Guy we are committed to supporting our community by using local ingredients that are also sustainable and ethical. We also try to keep our city clean by only offering compostable items at our truck. Here are just a few things we are doing to help:

We think local ingredients just taste better plus we think it's important as a Vancouver start up company to support other local companies so we can all build and grow together.

<- Chickens at Rehoboth Farm.

We currently purchase our beef from Empire Valley, they produce hormone free, open range, premium beef for our Shane's and Aussie Pies.
We purchase our eggs for our Brekkie Pie from Rehoboth Farm located in Chilliwack, BC. They provide us with SPCA certified fresh eggs.
The beer for our Aussie Pie gravy is made from Howe Sound Rail Ale, which is produced in their brewery in Squamish, BC.
The pork for our Porky and Brekkie Pie is from Gelderman Farms in Abbotsford, BC.

We also source many of our vegetables and fruit locally and organically.

Inspired by Bundanoon, Australia - the first city in the world to ban bottled water - we only offer fresh, Vancouver tap water on our truck. It's delicious, it's good for the enviornment and it's free! Read more about it here.

Everything we provide to our customers is compostable aside from recyclable drink cans. The sleeves that the pies are held in, cutlery, napkins, pie boxes and even water cups are 100% compostable.

If you have any questions about our sustainability goals or would like to know more information about where we source our ingredients, please don't hesitate to contact us!

We proudly serve fresh, Vancouver tap water – inspired by Bundanoon, Australia.

At Aussie Pie Guy we try our best to be sustainable which is why we have chosen not to sell bottled water. Our decision to not sell bottled water was inspired by the small town of Bundanoon in New South Wales, Australia. Bundanoon banned bottled water in 2009 and was the first city in the world to do so. They didn't see the need for it and neither do we.

Vancouver's mountain fresh water has been voted one of the best waters on tap in the entire world and we're proud of that. Enjoy free, delicious tap water at our truck daily in compostible cups or bring your own reusable water bottle and fill up!

Australian town bans bottled water
July 9, 2009

Residents of a rural Australian town have voted to ban the sale of bottled water. They are possibly the first community in the world to take such a step.
Residents of Bundanoon cheered after their near-unanimous approval of the measure at a town meeting on Wednesday. It was the second blow to Australia's beverage industry in one day. Hours earlier, the New South Wales state premier banned all state departments and agencies from buying bottled water, calling it a waste of money and natural resources.

"I have never seen 350 Australians in the same room all agreeing to something," said Jon Dee, who helped spearhead the "Bundy on Tap" campaign in Bundanoon, a town of 2,500 about 100 miles south of Sydney. "It's time for people to realise they're being conned by the bottled water industry."
First popularised in the 1980s as a convenient, healthy alternative to sugary drinks, bottled water today is often criticised as an environmental menace, with bottles cluttering landfills and requiring large amounts of energy to produce and transport.

Over the past few years, at least 60 cities in the United States and a handful of others in Canada and the United Kingdom have agreed to stop spending taxpayer money on bottled water, which is often consumed during city meetings, said Deborah Lapidus, organiser of Corporate Accountability International's "Think Outside the Bottle" campaign in the US.

But the Boston-based nonprofit corporate watchdog has never heard of a community banning the sale of bottled water, she said.
"I think what this town is doing is taking it one step further and recognising that there's safe drinking water coming out of our taps," she said.

Opening June 13th

Aussie Pie Guy Food Truck Opening June 13th

Vancouver, BC – June 11, 2013 – Vancouver’s first and only Australian food truck, Aussie Pie Guy, is opening at W. Georgia and Hamilton Street on Thursday, June 13th.

Aussie Pie Guy is bringing savory and sweet Australian style pies to the streets of Vancouver via their decked out “Aussie road trip” themed truck. Pies include the traditional Aussie Pie made with BC beef and a pepper gravy made with local Howe Sound beer, the Brekkie Pie made with a whole BC egg and tons of bacon and more! Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are also available.

“We are thrilled to be bringing an Australian classic to Vancouver. The pies are inspired by Australia and the ingredients are inspired by B.C. It’s a match made in pie heaven” says Co-Founder of Aussie Pie Guy, Kayleigh Lum.

Aussie Pie Guy will be a part of the new food truck pod located in front of the Queen Elizabeth Theater at the 600 block of Hamilton Street. Pie enthusiasts will also be able to find the truck at a variety of festivals and events including Khatsalano Arts & Music Festival, Vancouver Farmers Market (Kerrisdale) and the Chinatown Night Market (just to name a few!) Clearly, Vancouver is craving a good pie.

Aussie Pie Guy was founded by Matt Fitzhardinge of Perth, Australia, Kayleigh Lum and Linda Lowery (both of Vancouver) after craving a quality Aussie pie and couldn’t find one in Vancouver. Aussie Pie Guy ranked #1 out of all street vendor applications for the 2013 street food vendor licenses. All ingredients are sourced organic, local and ethically whenever possible. Matt, Linda and Kayleigh are available for interviews and look forward to filling Vancouverites pie holes!
